HOW
YOU CAN HELP
As a nonprofit charitable organization, RIBSTF
relies on donations to fund its programs and
services.
If you:
- Know someone
whose life has been turned upside down by a
tumor of the brain or spine
- Can imagine
the shock of hearing a doctor say “It might
be a brain tumor” or “You have cancer in
your spine”
- Would like
to reduce the suffering inflicted by these
tumors in Rhode Island
- Believe that
people working together can achieve victory
over these difficult diseases
We ask you to
join us in our urgent mission to ease the burden
of brain and spine tumors in the Ocean State.
Your contribution will help us address the needs
of Rhode Islanders who are striving to cope with
brain or spine tumors. It will allow us to arm
them with knowledge about nearby treatment
options, practical assistance, and peer support.
It will strengthen our initiative to publicize
local clinical trials, with the goal of
enhancing patients’ access to new therapies
through research.
Apart from the
satisfaction that comes from helping others,
donating to the Foundation may reduce your
income taxes and estate taxes. In some cases,
restrictions may apply; a professional tax
advisor can tell you more. To receive a receipt
for tax purposes, be sure to give us your name
and contact information.
MANY
WAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
You can show your
compassion for Rhode Island brain and spine
tumor patients in many different ways, from
general donations to the specific kinds of gifts
described below. However you give, thank you for
your contribution!
Matching Gifts
Would you like to double your donation at no
cost to you? Check with your employer’s human
resources department about whether the company
has a charitable matching gift program. Many
companies match charitable gifts made by their
employees.
Tribute Gifts
A tribute gift offers a way to recognize a
special person or to express appreciation for
kindness shown. For instance, you could donate
in the name of health-care professional or
friend whose support means a lot to you.
Remembrance Gifts
When a loved one, friend, coworker, or someone
you admire passes away, a remembrance gift in
his or her name honors that person’s memory. A
remembrance gift can also comfort those who are
grieving.
Surviving family
members can invite people to donate to RIBSTF in
memory of the deceased. The obituary might say
something like: “In lieu of flowers, the family
asks that memorial donations be sent to the
Rhode Island Brain and Spine Tumor Foundation,
118 Dudley Street, Providence, RI 02905.”
Bequests
Estate planning can enable you to leave a legacy
of hope and help in the battle against tumors of
the central nervous system. Your options include
leaving all of your estate, a particular dollar
amount, or a percentage to RIBSTF.
Alternatively, your will could specify that the
Foundation receive any assets that remain after
its other provisions have been met. You might
also name the Foundation as a beneficiary on
your life insurance or structure your giving in
a way that yields steady income for you.
Event Sponsorships
Sponsoring all or part of an RIBSTF fundraising
event leverages your donation to enable us to
secure additional support. It also helps us
raise awareness of these tumors and their impact
across Rhode Island. To learn more about
upcoming fundraisers or to discuss sponsorship
opportunities, please contact us.
Corporate Gifts
By supporting RIBSTF, your company can give back
to the community that has fueled its success.
Charitable giving can enhance your
organization’s image, foster pride among your
employees, and build goodwill toward your
business. Whether you intend to give regularly
or once, we would be glad to explore the
possibilities with you.
Gifts of Property
Another way to advance our cause involves
donating property, such as stocks, bonds, mutual
funds, real estate, cars, and fine art. These
kinds of gifts may also reduce the amount of
income and estate tax you must pay. We recommend
that you consult a tax professional and RIBSTF
for guidance on how to proceed with a property
gift.
