WHO WE ARE

The Rhode Island Brain & Spine Tumor Foundation (RIBSTF) was established in February of 2008. The foundation arose from concerns that Rhode Island patients and their families received far too little support, as they faced high stake decisions that follow the first suspicion or diagnosis of a brain or spine tumor. Patients and their families deserve an outstretched hand, should it be needed, to adjust to changes brought on by the disease. RIBSTF has joined with medical experts, human service professionals and researchers with laypersons whose lives have been touched by these tumors.

WHAT WE DO

The Rhode Island Brain & Spine Tumor Foundation (RIBSTF) hosts monthly support group meetings. These complementary meetings, which are co-facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is also a Registered Nurse, and the co-facilitator, a brain cancer patient, provide information and group support, one on one when needed, as well as peer to peer support for brain and spine tumor patients, families, loved ones and caregivers. Our monthly support group meetings are held on the second Monday of each month via zoom. RIBSTF also offers the patient financial assistance to help them when in need, thus allowing them to focus on treatment as they need to adjust to changes created by this disease. Each request is reviewed by our patient assistance committee and information verified, with the patients consent. We also connect the patient and their family with experts in areas where they seek assistance. Some examples: licensed insurance specialists, licensed financial planners, end of life planning, hospice services, grief counseling, etc.
